I am not a professional artist but do have enough art background and experience to recognize good quality products and tools. I have sets of very expensive professional level colored pencils, as well as kid level sets. I have sets made in Europe, Asia, USA...in other words, I have a LOT of colored pencils. I have been so disappointed with the quality of my most expensive set, breakage, unable to handle pressure, rough wood interior, cost per replacement pencil, etc. In a bit of desperation I decided to try these...and they are lovely!! The color line is gorgeous, they sharpen beautifully (small hand sharpener, not a regular pencil sharpener!!), the box they come in is well made (usually I recycle the box, but not for this set). The lead is nice and thick, so for fine lines I do need to sharpen them, but they layer and blend so well!! The color name is on each pencil, which helps with remembering which colors I use. They came pre-sharpened, so the first needed sharpening is very easy. The wood inside seems to be very smooth so it doesn’t catch on the sharpener blade. The lead is on the soft side, so very fine lines might benefit from a harder lead, but they sharpen so easily that it is not difficult to get a nice thin line.I’m sold on these pencils and highly recommend them.

i like to draw - it gives me a feeling of great satisfaction and pride as well as i really like getting into that "zone" drawing for 6-8 hours at a time - although i am not an artist by any means of the word. i do not have any real techniques and i use references quite a bit. so i just do it for fun and sometimes it comes out ok and sometimes not but the idea is to have fun.in these 3 years or so i have come to own Sargent, Marco Raffine (72), FC Polychromos (120), and recently Arteza (72), Prismacolor premier (72) which i have yet to use.the pencils came in a tin stacked with plastic 3 plastic trays - the tin is wrapped in a thin plastic bag. when i received my pencils some of the pencils came loose and the tin cover was slightly opened - nothing appeared to be broken.the pencils have very vivid colors and sharpen very well - they do come to a very sharp point - however i have a habit of pressing too hard and the sharp point sometimes crumbles from my heavy handedness.i was able to try out the pencils over the weekend and i broke them in with a picture of St Basils Cathedral in Moscow, Russia.they blend fairly well - i am lazy so i do not use solvents but then again i do not have experience with solvents. i used the prismacolor premier colorless blender.i have attached my drawing - i look forward to using these pencils again.10-24-20 update. I am ramping up my production because I need to fill up my sketchbook of 100 sheets (canson universal) - this is my goal.I find that arteza colored pencils are great to work with. I think the colors are fantastic- prismacolor premier is creamier than these but these are great to work with too.

I bought these a while ago and love the quality of them. The colors are so brilliant. My granddaughter spent the night and we colored together - she loved the pencils much better than the cheaper ones she has and she's only 10. They weren't on her Christmas list, so Grandma had to order her a set ❣️

I’m usually a watercolorist or digital painter but I wanted to get back into colored pencils. I have used Arteza paints and sketchbooks and really like those so I went for these pencils.Pros- not waxy or dull. Vibrant colors that layer well.- responds well to the solvents I tried. Baby oil and Meltz. The latter was superior.- Works okay with a Prismcolor blender. Im not a huge fan of those in general as they can dull the colors being so waxy.- Soft but I didn’t have any issues with breakage. Sharpens fine in a basic manual sharpener.Neutrals- the tin they come in is nice but the plastic trays that hold the pencils in layers are flimsy. I tend to draw on my lap so this may not annoy someone who sits at a desk. I moved them into a bag instead- the paint on the barrel of the pencil doesn’t always quite match what’s inside.- they are rated for lightfastednessCons- The white pencil is not great. I replaced it with a Cretacolor Permanent White (available here on Amazon)- lacking in reds and orangesThis drawing was made with these pencils, Meltz colored pencil solvent applied with a q tip (available here on Amazon too), and Cretacolor Permanent White. On a slightly toothy canson mixed media pad.

First off this would be an excellent budget set for a child, or an adult who needs to buy budget priced pencils for their coloring books. For those purposes I would highly recommend them. The color choice in the 72 set is excellent, though some could use more depth in shade and I wish there were a really dark inky blue color, however this set is more than enough to blend and get colors you want. They are very soft in lay down and sharpen to a nice point which does not easily break as some brands do. They layer and blend reasonably well though not as good as my Polychromos do but I did not expect that at this price point. I love some of the colors, the pinks and purples and greens are well represented. The big downside to sets like this is that you cannot buy individual pencils when one wears out, this is a huge disadvantage to someone like myself. I like to be able to buy only the colors I use the most as often as I need to without buying a whole set. I got this set for travel purposes, and it will be great for that. It comes beautifully packaged in a metal tin with 3 layers. The metal tin is covered in cellophane and then put into a sturdy form fitting box and then shipped in the Amazon box. Because of this the pencils arrived in one piece with no damage. Kudos for the packaging. I can certainly recommend these pencils and they would be great for anyone starting out or who does not want to spend a fortune. All in all a very good buy and I do not think you will be disappointed as long as you understand these are not the same as Polychromos, or Pablo's or other high end brands.

These are my favorite watercolor pencils by far, and are certainly worth the money. They have rich colors and a wide variety. I use them mainly to customize dolls, and the colors are strongly pigmented on vinyl and watercolor paper alike. These pencils stay sharp and the led doesn't snap easily, even when dropped on a hard floor.I definitely recommend these pencils if you're looking for high quality watercolor pencils.

These watercolor pencils is exactly what I needed! They are beautiful and I love the colors! Now, I am not a professional artist, not by any stretch of imagination, but I love creating my unprofessional art and for the project I was making, these fit the bill amazingly well! Refer to pictures to see the difference between dry coloring and watercolor (when I added water). I can’t make judgements about the price because I haven’t really researched into it. But I felt like the most popular cheaper version was Crayola, which works fine, but it is a bit grainier (if that’s the real term) and needs a bit more water which warps the paper. So for me this was a deal!

I would like to preface this review by saying that I’m a complete noob when it comes to watercolor pencils, though I use pan watercolors often enough. Also, I used these as a means of adding touch-ups to my watercolor paintings. I received my set through the Amazon Warehouse program so apparently it was previously used/opened but the set arrived in great condition so I got a deal (bought at about $21) there.First impressions, I really like the metal tin, it feels sturdy. However, the opening for it is a bit difficult if you have problems with dexterity, so I’d consider the packaging not very accessible (more on this later). The pencils are arranged on a thin plastic holder, with two rows. The red holders are very thin and flimsy and you must hold them on both sides or else it won’t support its own weight and the pencils will spill out. I also think the little holders on the side aren’t very accessible dexterity wise. It’s a little slippery when trying to grasp it with my fingertips. Most of my gripes have to do with the packaging, which I think can be adjusted a bit.The pencils themselves feel fine. They melt nicely when water is applied to the pencil. I dipped them in water and tried applying them as well and they glided very nicely. I’d say pigment wise, it’s also decent. Some colors are very pale but since I got them with the intention of doing touch ups I’m not too bothered. I didn’t understand the ordering and numbering of the pencils so I took them all out and arranged them how I liked. Overall, I’d say I’m satisfied. As a beginner, I like the large array of colors (I ordered the 48 set). I took away one star because I think the packaging could be improved a bit.

Our great-grandson enjoys drawing with pencil. Prior to this set he hadn't used either color or different pencil hardnesses (We bought him a pencil set with different hardness levels) Now we wanted to see if he did with adding color.. This set thrilled him; he is enjoying this next step in his art work. Pricing was good for use as a training set that is better than a basic colored pencil set.

This was a Christmas present for one of my grandsons. He is 8 and enjoys arts and crafts. The pencils come in a tin box and they can be used as colored pencils or as watercolors. To use as watercolors, you use the pencils and then dampen the paint brush that comes with it. Adding water to the pencils can give you the option of shading etc. This would be great for anyone - adult or child - that is creative.

I love this coloring book, as a fan of the ocean and art it's perfect for when I'm in the mood to color. It takes to markers with no bleeding (using Crayola fine tip art markers), and the designs are stunning just as shown in the previews. In fact, the previews not spoiling every page made flipping though it very exciting. It's a little smaller than I realized, but honestly I realized a perfect pad for coloring at your desk or on a small table in front of the tv, even in your lap (since it's very easy to maneuver and thick enough to not really make a flat surface necessary for everyone). Between the quality of the art and paper material, the stretch cover to keep it closed, and the thickness to make it sturdier than most coloring books, I have to say this is my new gold standard brand when I'll go looking for more to color.

To start I am not a coloring aficionado. I decided to try this because a friend advised me she was coloring to relax during the pandemic and found it cleared her head and was allowing her to have a break from her worries. I was also planning a long socially isolated car trip with my husband where I would be a passenger some of the time. I was surprised that this book was about a half inch longer than my iPhone 8 in height and width but that worked for me since I was planning to try it for the first time while traveling. The individual sheets seem thick to me. They certainly are not like a child’s coloring book or even printer paper. I think I could probably use markers with this but I have not tried it. (It says 100 lb on the cover which I assume refers to this as the book certainly isn’t that weight!). I used colored pencils I had and found they worked great (a larger set of Crayola). I think you would want colors that provide multiple shades of a color (many different greens, different reds, etc. to choose from and to use in connected shapes for shading the overall flower or leaf). The designs are very detailed and when using it in a car while traveling I did find it a little difficult keeping inside the lines on some of the smaller shapes because of the roughness of the road but it wasn’t impossible to use. It was relaxing to think about only the colors and shapes and shading. I did find that there were some places I thought needed shading which did not have a shape drawn there. I improvised but that might be a draw back to some. There were also shapes drawn where I would not have shaded with a different color but found it provided interest to follow their hint and use a different tone/hue? (I’m not an artist...). of the color I was using. I thought the designs were beautiful and detailed enough to be very interesting. Some are repeating the same flower of flower, some are of one or two flowers in a closeup, some are many, a variety of different flowers and leaves (some more natural and some leaning towards fantasy in my view), occasional trees, most fill the page but a view have plain backgrounds... I was a bit concerned before buying that I would find an entire book of flowers to grow boring but there is a lot of variety within that theme and I don’t think I will grow bored with the designs (although I don’t expect to do this daily or even several times a week most of the time—it would be an occasional activity I think for me). The back cover is thick cardboard that was very easy to color on without anything else under the book (I used it on my lap in the car and would do it again without any hesitation.) The pages will tear out of the glued binding easily if I want to do that. I do think that would work well if you work from front to back of the book but if you skip around and tear out pages you would have other pages coming out I think. Overall, I really was extremely pleased with this book. It did cost more than I would have liked but the quality is there. I feel like I did get what I paid for. It is better quality than I expected to get! FYI, I am a 52 year old woman but I do work with elementary age children. These are detailed designs but I think a child of 3rd grade who was very interested in art and had good fine motor skills (good at coloring) could be able to use this and enjoy it. Some designs are a little larger shapes that are easier so they could jump around if they didn’t tear out pages (or had a folder or rubber and to hold the pages in the book) and “grow into it”. Many of the designs would be frustrating for an average third grader however. An adult/teen could share random pages with an upper elementary aged child if they didn’t mind tearing out random pages. There are definitely some in there they could do without being an “expert” colorer. (Always nice to have options for how you can use something.)

As a disclaimer, this picture is literally my first time ever coloring in an adult coloring book. I make my own art and have never considered coloring books before, but I just decided to give it a go, and I bought these books.I’m brand new to adult coloring books but I’m not new to coloring, as it were. I’ve been using pens and colored pencils and all manner of art mediums for years, so I don’t think my struggle with the fine details in this book were user error or a lack of experience with the materials. They are just incredibly tiny details, and it’s very hard to get even cheap oil-based colored pencils sharp enough to fit into the spaces. I had planned to do markers over pencils (Polychromos and Luminance pencils and Staedtler multi-ink brush pens). I started with the pencils but I ended up abandoning them. I just used the brush pens and added a little bit of white gel pen (Stabilo) at the end to bring back some highlights.I like how my picture turned out, so I can’t complain. The pictures are fun. It’s nice that they are single-sided, and my ink did not bleed through or absorb too quickly (the ink is permanent when dry but I was able to blend with my fingers and even the pens themselves). I’m very used to thick, highly-absorbent watercolor paper, so I expected this very thin paper would struggle to accept many layers and would bleed through. I was pleasantly surprised with how it stood up. As long as I let the ink dry first I was able to add quite a few layers without it getting muddy or damaging the paper. I went back over my layers with the blue green for the water several times and it took each one. Impressive.Mainly I just think a book this size should probably not have such intricate details, and I didn’t really grasp how that would be in actual practice when looking at the images online. If your vision isn’t the best or if your hands are not super steady you might not enjoy these pages.

Buying Guide

When choosing paint brushes, it is important to consider the size and shape of the brush. Smaller brushes are better suited for detail work, while larger brushes are better suited for painting large areas. Round paint brushes are ideal for laying brushstrokes, while flat brushes are ideal for creating broader lines. Generally, a beginner set should include a variety of sizes and shapes to offer versatility for different projects. It is also important to consider the material of the brush. Synthetic paint brushes are generally more affordable, while natural hair brushes are more expensive. Synthetic brushes produce less lint than natural hair brushes, so they are ideal for painting with watercolor paints. Natural hair brushes may be the best choice for working with oil paints since they absorb and spread the paint better than synthetic brushes. The ferrule is the metal piece that attaches the handle to the brush. Finally, the quality of the paint brushes is an important factor to consider when making a purchase. Poor-quality brushes can shed bristles, which can ruin a painting. High-quality paint brushes are made with finer bristles and better craftsmanship, making them better suited for difficult painting techniques. To ensure the highest possible quality, choose a set that includes a certificate of authenticity.
