This heater does it's job just perfect. Set the thermostat low, and turn this on when home to bring up to a more comfortable living temperature. Just make sure codes are followed while installing.

First of all I love the black color. Installation was fairly quick and easy. Once propane was hooked up it fired right up. Fan came on automatically as expected. The real test will be to see how it does this winter.

Installation was easy mounting it to the basement wall. I didn't use the screws provided, rather I used Tapcons to secure it to the wall. I located it about 6 inches above the floor so there was no issue with gas hookup. After my local LP gas supplier connected the gas I fired it up. The installer did some leak checks and ran through some safety items. There was some odor initially from the paint and oil that may be on the metal parts from the factory. This passed after about an hour. I set it at 3 and it really pushed out the heat. I noted that the fan, although in auto mode never came on. I removed the front, located the fan temperature switch, and using a hairdryer, directed hot air right onto the switch. within a second or two the fan came on. I contacted the factory to see if they could send me a replacement switch. I never got the replacement so I called again, again they will send me a new switch. I'm skeptical if the replacement switch will solve the problem. I think the wrong switch was installed, meaning it's set at a temperature too high to trigger it. I'm a retired engineer who specialized in industrial automation. The lady on the phone was nice so I'll find out if they ship out as promised and if the replacement in fact fixes the problem9/30/20 I decided not to replace the temperature switch because it does function work. I removed the temperature switch and saw a stamping on the face that said 45 deg C, which is 113 deg F. I connected an ohmmeter to the switch, heated up a skillet on low, and with a laser temperature meter got the skillet up to 150 deg F., Sure enough, the switch triggered. I put the temperature sensor back into the heater. I turned the heater on and let it run for about an hour and within the hour the fan did turn on. So I just needed to let the heater run longer. I gave it another star.

Well made, puts out a decent amount of heat and it's easy to use. The largest problem was figuring out what fittings to use on the LP connection. The manual is less than clear. What you need is a 3/8" Male Flare X 3/8" Male Flare 90 degree fitting. This is the one I used: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YRPCWZT?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1Has to be 90 degrees as there isn't room under the unit for the supply line unless it's wall mounted.Once you get that done it just works!

I had an old garage heater that was very similar to the Mr. Heater 30,000 BTU unit but it died from old age. It would shut off sometimes after 30 minutes of running and other times after 2 minutes of running. I tried every Youtube trick to try and get it to stay running but had no success. So now I have my new Mr. Heater unit. I had to slightly modify my straight gas line connection (no flex tubing) by extending it slightly left and up. I now have a heater that works great. I like the battery starter on Mr. Heater better than my old click button starter. I was able to remove the electric fan from my old unit and insert it into my Mr. Heater unit. Three of the four screw holes matched perfectly for me to install it. I did have to install it sideways though where I can't access the auto/off/manual switch. So I left the switch on (manual) and just plug it in whenever I use it. I primarily use my garage heater in the winter when I wash my car inside my garage. I use the Optimum no rinse method (look it up on Youtube) which works great since I have no drain in my garage. This is the second winter that I've had my ceramic coated BMW X5. The shop that applied the ceramic coating inspected the coating per the warranty. They said that my car still looked perfect (shiny and no scratches). I'm very happy with my Mr Heater heated garage and Optimum no rinse car wash process.

After 10 years of service, the push valve on our ProCom gas heater quit releasing gas to light the pilot. Since a new part cost almost as much as a new heater, it was much easier to just get this new unit and install it.I was kind of bummed since I had just replace the sparker on the old heater, but it was also harder to work on. With the new "Mr. Heater", only 4 screws need to be removed to access the entire inside. Another interesting point is the the old heater could work with either propane or natural gas and the new one only works with natural gas, but hey, that's the only fuel I needed it for so I'm happy. One other thing to note is that the new "sparker" is electronic and requires one AA battery, but it works really well.

The 5-level thermostatic function is a must-have feature, and they surely put some thought into it. Don't buy the version that lacks it. On the lowest setting, for maybe 1000 sq ft, IN MY CONTEXT, it holds the temp at 61F, which is low enough to just leave it on all the time. I judge that it's operationally trustworthy, and you CAN leave it on while you sleep, at a central location, not in a closed bedroom, OF COURSE. The commentary that you should NEVER EVER EVER EVER do so is the sort of parrot speak started by the usual seeding of legalese, and then gets mindlessly repeated by knee-jerk-must-have-an-answer-no-matter-what types. I rigged up my own fan above it, with my own temp sensing control switching the fan on and off, since convectively heating the ceiling at one spot overhead is, if you know about this stuff, thermodynamically wasteful. Delta T governs that rate of heat transfer into the attic, ya know. PS It's kind of a big white eyesore. Wish it came in black or some nice dark shade of brown. I'm sure some interiors would agree better with various shades of green. Red, too devilish. Blue, some guys with beards would like it. Yellow, an interesting contrast to blue flames. Orange, oh the horror. ROY G B.. indigo, violet, too close to call.UPDATE: Lets enough gas escape into the room unburnt after the valve opens and before ignition occurs such that the smell of that gas is very noticeable, at least with my unit, and might bother you. How might they improve on this? Is the obviously robust pilot flame encountering too rich or too lean a mixture such that the ignition is delayed while gas blows out into the room? I don't know. Optimizing and reducing problems like this is what engineering is supposed to do, if possible.

Pleade see my edits at the bottom of this review and be sure to have a carbon monoxide detector installed!!!I bought this fantastic heater for an insulated room in my garage. I needed to replace a wall furnace that decided to go bad 3 months after the warranty was up a couple of years ago. I used infrared electric heaters last winter which was horrible timing, because our electric rates tripled so I almost couldn't make it through the winter paying my electric bill to heat the room.I got estimates from two local companies to replace the wall furnace and they were both over $4,000, which I totally cannot afford at this point. One of them told me I would not like this heater because of the odor of gas that would come from it. And that is one only negative that I have to say about it, is that there IS an odor of natural gas especially noticeable when I walk into the room from outside. I was not expecting it to be a significant as it is, so I am waiting for Levoit air purifier to help me and keeping the odor and the potential health effects under control. I happen to be very sensitive to chemical smells so maybe that's why other people aren't mentioning it and their reviews. I thought the person who warned me about it was trying to steer me away because he didn't sell them, but he was right about it.All that being said, I'm extremely happy so far and very impressed with the Comfort level that this heater puts out. I'm in southeast Michigan and it's already chilly especially in the evenings and this heater has kept the temperature at a steady 70 to 73 ° day and night and set at the lowest level ! I believe the fairly large pilot light also helps keep the room warm on its own, so the unit doesn't need to run as often as it normally would . I had my generator worker install this because he certified in gas Appliance installations and he had no issues installing it. We use the suggested Universal gas line hook up, as well as the blower, that also works extremely well. The blower is slightly noisy and it clicks when it goes off for a minute or two but it's not enough for me to save that's a negative feature of this heater. The only other negative I would say is that the knob control for the Heat and to light the pilot is on the top of the unit and since I installed it on a wall it's a little bit difficult for me to see exactly where the setting is, so even though I'm fairly tall I need to use a step ladder so that I can actually see what I'm doing. It would have been helpful to have the control knob on the side or maybe an electronic readout on the front that we would reflect the heat level for people who do a wall installation. If you're of a short stature or don't think you can get on a step ladder and you're going to install it on a wall, you may want to rethink that and consider placing it it on the floor, or installing it low enough on the wall that you can see it easily. Otherwise it'll be a little bit of guesswork especially at first until you get used to how the knob works.Another thing that I truly like is that I had the choice of the white color, because some Brands here on Amazon only offer black.Lastly I want to thank Amazon and Mr. Heater for saving me $4,000 to be able to heat this room where I have a cat living currently!! He's slightly feral so I can't bring him in my house but I want him to be warm and comfy. Plus, I will probably save at least $250 to $300 per month this winter by using Natural Gas instead of an electric heater. The electric heaters are said to be very efficient but I can tell you from experience the absolutely are not! This was a great buy and I highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend it. I don't have the air purifier yet so I can't say if it's going to help the older issue or not, but I'm pretty confident that it will because it's supposed to remove odors and VOC's.. I don't think you go wrong with this purchase and assuming all goes well and it works without issues in the coming years I will be a Mr customer for life!.Update 10/2/2023. After using this for 8 days it wasn't igniting properly and ended up setting off my carbon monoxide detector. The ODS didn't shut off the heater! I called Amazon and they sent me a replacement and I also called the company and spoke to Dennis who was very helpful and told me the 30,000 BTU was too large for my 450 sq ft. space even though the description says up to 1000 sq ft. It needs more oxygen than a small room can provide. He also said the heater could have been damaged during shipping and that could have caused the gas odor to be so strong. I will be replacing this with the 20,000 BTU unit and will keep a window cracked. Not happy about that but better than paying thousands for standard wall furnace. Lastly the air purifier didn't help the gas odor at all so I'm waiting to find out if a different filter they make would work better. Amazon customer service has been fantastic helping me to return both 30,000 BTU heaters that were delivered. Very happy with them!

We wanted some sort of heater for our somewhat rough finished basement and this was our choice. The unit is pretty solid and for what it is, is about a visually pleasing as it is going to get. The instructions were pretty clear and I had no issue mounting this unit and running some of the piping myself. It does not come with the gas line install kit, so you will need one. The kit will come with a shutoff valve, 18'' or so of metal flex line, and some gas rated pipe tape. If you install it yourself, remember to install a sediment trap, generally a stub below the iron pipe at the lowest point to catch sediment. (google it). But the heater works very good and brought out 750 sqft basement from 61F to 68 in about an hour and a half. Keep an eye on your humidity levels with vent-less units. I opted for the additional powered fan kit, though it is a little noisy it does seem to help and you can feel the blower from about 18'' out from the heater. The photo attached shows the gap between the fan and the wall. I made a 2'' or so space to flex the heater away from the wall a bit to let more air get to the intake of the fan, this helped a little. Being rated at 1,000sqft it works well in 750-800 sqft. For the price you really cannot go wrong with this quality heater.

UPDATE: See latest photo. You can set the temp just above PILOT. This will generally keep your space above freezing. WARNING: IN a cold snap THIS ULTRA LOW SETTING MIGHT LET YOUR SPACE DROP BELOW FREEZING... UPDATE: At level .5 (below 1 out of 5) this baby kept my garage at 42 during freezing temps. You did not read wrong. You can actually dial this below 1. I am going to see what happens even lower. But this is what I wanted. Thinking about five stars now...INITIAL:Pictured is older 10k btu vs 30k dyna glo. Replaced older (not thermostatically controlled). So it set up very easy and worked great out of box. Now to figure out what each temperature level 1-5 represents. My Ideal would be 1 keeps a room from freezing, like 40 degrees or below, the heater kicks in. Not concerned about the other settings because this thing will get my 520 Sq. Ft. garage baking in no time. I bought this thing to keep the garage above freezing for things in garage that don't like freezing. Like batteries, liquids, etc... Will come back with a 5 rating if this thing is smart. A little annoyed I have figure this out. Why isn't this documented in the owners manual so I don't have to take the chance this thing is not going to do what I want. IDK.

Very happy with this product for the price. Our basement is large and gets drafty in the winter, which also makes other parts of our house colder than they should be. We had this installed with our natural gas. I also purchased the fan insert. It efficiently kept our basement comfortably warm during our first use this past winter. I also like the different settings and the automatic on/off thermostat. Very little noticeable smell and also looks pretty nice. Considering buying another one for our garage.

My basement radiators stopped heating up. I called numerous heating companies around Chicago. Paid over $3k trying to get the heat back up and running. Every company had no clue as to how to fix the problem. Most of their solutions didn't work or were way too expensive. This unit solved the problem. It keep my basement at 79 degree. It was super easy to install and it works without having to run venting pipe out of the apartment. I went with the fan and a Carbon Monoxide detector. It has been working for over 2 months with zero hiccups. I thought I would need two units but this one bad boy does the job. If you are tired of being ripped off by those heating/airconditioning companies buy one of these. I highly recommended them. I wish I would have gone with this first. It would have saved me a small fortune and a lot of headaches.

I purchased this Dyna-Glo heater for a 300 sq ft room which does not have a furnace duct vent for heat. I replaced an electric heater with this unit. This gas-fired unit is less expensive to use than the electric one, and it heats up the room really fast, so it doesn't stay on very long. It's powerful enough to keep my entire house from freezing if the electric power goes off in the winter, which is why I bought a higher BTU unit than the rooms needs. It was easy to hook up and so far has worked flawlessly! A plus is that it added some humidity to the dry, heated winter air in the house. The thermostat works well to keep the temperature at the right level. I am really glad I bought this heater and recommend it.

Stay Cozy: Selecting the Perfect Natural Gas Space Heater

Natural gas space heaters provide efficient and cost-effective heating solutions for homes, particularly during the colder months. They offer a reliable source of warmth, ensuring that living spaces remain comfortable without the high energy costs associated with electric heating options. The purpose of a natural gas space heater is to deliver consistent, powerful heat to specific areas of your home, making it an excellent choice for supplemental heating or as a primary heat source in regions with moderate climates.

When selecting a natural gas space heater, begin by understanding the heating capacity you require. This typically depends on the size of the area you need to heat. Heaters are rated by BTUs (British Thermal Units), which indicate their heating power. For example, a heater rated at 10,000 BTUs can effectively warm a room of about 300 square feet. Assess your space and choose a heater with an appropriate BTU rating to ensure efficient and effective heating. If you want to heat up a large room, a good option is the Mr. Heater 30,000 BTU Vent-Free Blue Flame Natural Gas Heater, which offers powerful and efficient heating for spaces up to 1,000 square feet, making it ideal for large spaces.

The type of natural gas space heater you choose also matters. There are two primary types: vented and vent-free. Vented heaters, such as direct vent and B-vent models, expel combustion gases outside, making them suitable for long-term use and larger spaces. They require installation through an exterior wall or roof, which might involve additional costs. On the other hand, vent-free heaters are easier to install and can be placed almost anywhere in the room. They operate efficiently and are ideal for supplemental heating, but they require proper ventilation to avoid indoor air quality issues. If you're seeking a vent-free heater, check out the ProCom Vent-Free Dual Fuel Stove, which can use either natural gas or liquid propane as fuel and is also user-friendly with its LCD programmable remote control.

Safety features are paramount when choosing a natural gas space heater. Modern heaters come equipped with several safety mechanisms, such as oxygen depletion sensors (ODS) that automatically shut off the heater if the oxygen level in the room drops too low. Overheat protection is another critical feature, preventing the unit from reaching unsafe temperatures. Look for models that include both ODS and overheat protection, making them a reliable and safe choice for any home.

Energy efficiency is another important aspect to evaluate. Look for models with high AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) ratings, as these indicate better performance in converting fuel to heat. An efficient heater will not only save you money on your energy bills but also reduce your environmental footprint. Heaters with an AFUE rating of 90% or higher are ideal, ensuring you get the most heat for the least gas consumption. Ease of installation and use should not be overlooked. Some heaters come with mounting kits and detailed instructions, simplifying the installation process. If you are not comfortable with DIY installation, professional installation might be necessary, particularly for vented models. Additionally, user-friendly controls, such as digital thermostats and remote controls, enhance convenience. A model with adjustable heat settings allows you to maintain your desired comfort level without hassle.

Material quality is another factor to take into account. High-quality materials, such as stainless steel or heavy-duty cast iron, ensure durability and longevity. Stainless steel is resistant to rust and corrosion, making it a good choice for heaters used in humid environments or those requiring long-term use. Cast iron retains heat well, providing consistent warmth and making it a suitable material for heaters in colder climates.

The design and aesthetic appeal of the heater also play a role. Natural gas space heaters come in various designs and finishes, from sleek, modern styles to classic, rustic looks. Choose a model that complements your home’s décor while providing the necessary functionality. A stylish design with a glass front can add a touch of elegance, while a rustic, cast iron model can enhance the coziness of a traditional setting.

By carefully evaluating these elements, you can find a natural gas space heater that provides efficient, safe, and convenient warmth, enhancing the comfort of your home throughout the colder seasons.
