Below is my original review and I still love this rope saw, even though mine broke the other day after two months use. I just ordered another one, which I would have been happy to have paid for (it is that useful), but I was really pleased to learn that a free replacement would be sent.I have a lot more trees and high limbs than most people, so I use saw a lot more than average user would use this saw. In my case, probably ten hours a week or more, every week, and frequently I am using to saw large diameter limbs. I used this saw so often, I was surprised that I did not have to sharpen it (with the included sharpening tool. The saw rarely got stuck, except on larger limbs, which happens with a standard chainsaw, when weight of the limb pinches on the blade. This generally happens at the end of the cut, and there is an easy work-around. Take another throw line and throw over limb towards the end of the limb, then pull down with the line a bit to take pressure off of the chain. - Be extra careful when you do this, that you don’t pull limb down on yourself, as often the limb is almost cut through when blade gets stuck. - Also, ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET WHEN DOING TREE WORK. Stuff happens. On a lighter note, this saw is fun to use. Once you get it over the limb you are supposed to do long pulls to saw. You have one rope with hand loop in your left hand, and similar rope in your right hand. I stand back at a distance where I can swing whole body from hips and swing shoulders in a continuous swimming motion (left hand over, swing, right hand over, etc.) It is a full body work out and surprisingly fun to do. Don’t go to fast though as you want consistent, smooth pulls to avoid saw sticking. You should also consider the following items (available on Amazon), for getting saw to limb and also to have a second throw line:1. Weaver Leather Arborist Replacement Polyethylene Throw Line , Yellow2. Weaver Leather Bullet Throw Weight (8 oz.).If you look under my reviews, you will see reviews for both of these items.Side note - I attached the bullet weight, with about 15-20 feet of throw line, to one end of one of the rope saw hand loop so rope saw is always ready for next throw, yet does not interfere with my sawing as I just leave that line on ground while I am doing the sawing.Final observation - I have not needed to cut higher than the amount of line which the saw line comes with, but I imagine you could cut much higher limbs as long as you could attach the ends of existing saw line to two longer ropes, one on each side. I think the only real limit is the amount of available rope you have attach to the line.___________Original ReviewI was surprised by how effective this saw was. It is not cheap, but it is a heck of a lot cheaper than having tree company come to remove high limbs. I just purchased, and have used heavily on three different days. If it broke tomorrow, I would feel I got my money’s worth. The saw is two chain is two sided, so you do not have to wonder whether you will get the cutting side to the correct position. The line attached to the saw was strong enough to handle as much force as I could generate. The saw handled limbs up to almost twelve inches in diameter, and I expect it will handle larger limbs when I went to expend the energy required to cut them. The cuts are clean and leave a nice flush edge on the branch, which is my goal. This saw has a lot of strong reviews and it appears they are well deserved.

This thing works great. I had some 4" diameter fir tree limbs blocking our views from our deck. I threw the weighted bag over the limb and started cutting. The chainsaw rope cut right through and fast. Definitely would recommend it!

I wasn’t sure how well this would work, but it’s brilliant. I put a rock in one of the included bags, tied on the rope, and tossed it over the branch I wanted to cut — nailed it on the first try. Then I attached the double-sided chainsaw blade and pulled it up and over the branch, centering it with both cords. In just a few minutes, I cut through a 6" branch with minimal effort. Great results.

I had a branch that was 50 foot high on a pine tree hanging over the house, I had to buy additional rope because it only comes with 25 foot lengths. My son casted his fishing pole up across the branch and we pulled up the rope and cut a 6 inch piece like nothing worked great didn’t break didn’t bend and it’s still sharp.

Did everything as advertised. With 2 people easily cuts through hard to get at branches. Yet to try it with only one operator.

We used this rope saw to cut the ‘tops’ off of dying spruce & poplar. (It is good practice to remove dead tree tops.) Neighbours stopped by and ‘volunteered’ to help!? 😜😃🤪Ha ha! - If you try one of these: its a handy idea to use a (sling shot) device to launch your ‘line’ over / around the tree. I ‘also’ found that attaching small markers (ribbons) on each end of the cutting chain, makes it easier to know when to stop and pull the other way.

The rope length was too short for my project. However, I quickly realized it is actually probably actually optimum length for the product. Using longer rope of the same size became difficult to manage. I purchased it to take down the top of a 50 foot tall pine tree killed by pine beetles. I used a different braided string to shoot a different weight with a wrist sling shot. The weight was a large steel nut. I was able to get it through limbs where a thrown bag simply wouldn’t work. The string was used to pull up the rope and the cutter chain. It was difficult to position the chain where I wanted it some times. The extra rope length made the positioning more difficult. I needed to cut selected branches to be left long enough to be used as steps/hand-holds. Simply allowing the chain to cut the branch at the point next to the trunk was much easier. The quotes from two arborists companies exceeded $5,000. So my taking two days to remove the tree made the purchase price of this kit trivial. The chain needs sharpening now. It is not readily apparent how to secure the chain to hold each tooth to sharpen all at the same angle. I can recommend the product for smaller projects than I tackled. It did work for my project. I am glad the project was completed to the point it was possible to climb the tree trunk on limb steps and then use a bow saw to get the tree shorter than the nearby power lines. Then it was possible to cut the trunk down. Rather sadly I now have a great pile of wood to split for the fireplace.

After waiting a few weeks for this rope saw kit it was put to work today. Several 5cm to 15cm branches in excess of 5m high were taken down. The low profile double sided double direction saw chain makes it easy to pull with minimal binding. The 8m paracord was just the right length for the task at hand. I used a sock filled with sand stuffed in one of the two throw bags provided. We used two persons however an extra length of cord and a pulley could be used for single person operation. It was a little more expensive than some but am overall happy.

I thought the seller packaged everything well and delivered promptly. The blade itself seems very sharp. It does cut well even thru oak. I got a little greedy and went after a pretty large sized limb.Keep your blade in the kerf of the cut. if you run the blade too far one direction or the other the carabiners packaged to hold the blade can get stuck in the kerf you've made very easily. like me I moved to a different position to get out of the way of the limb falling so I changed the blade positioning unintentionally. it ran over the carabiner and when I pulled the chain back it got stuck from both directions. I would suggest using a very good knot to hold the blade. e.g. fishermans or anchor knot etc. instead of the carabiner I guess. Also if this happens be prepared to bring out your 25'+ ladder to pull it out of the tree or you have a $50 ornament in your tree. You will likely need some better rope than is packaged in this kit.

Gear Up for Adventure: Unleash the Power of the Hand Rope Chain Saw

Hand rope chain saws offer a versatile and portable solution for outdoor enthusiasts, campers, and survivalists. With their compact design and efficient cutting capabilities, these tools enable users to effortlessly tackle woodcutting tasks while camping, hiking, or during emergencies. Whether it's clearing trails, gathering firewood, or building shelters, a hand rope chain saw is a must-have tool for anyone venturing into the great outdoors.

Blade Length and Material

Longer blades, typically ranging from 24 to 36 inches, offer extended reach and are suitable for cutting larger branches and trees. For heavy-duty use in rugged environments, high-carbon or titanium-coated steel blades ensure durability and resilience against wear and tear.

Handle Design and Grip

Ergonomically designed handles with contoured shapes and cushioned grips provide comfort and reduce hand fatigue during prolonged use. Nonslip rubber or textured surfaces enhance grip and control, especially when working in wet or slippery conditions.

Portability and Weight

Lightweight and compact hand rope chain saws weighing between 1 to 2 pounds are ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, or backpacking. Models with foldable handles or collapsible designs further enhance portability, allowing for easy storage in backpacks or emergency kits.

Versatility and Cutting Capacity

Look for hand rope chain saws with adjustable tension systems that allow for fine-tuning the cutting action according to the task at hand. Multi-directional cutting teeth or bi-directional blades offer versatility for cutting through different types of wood, including both hardwood and softwood.

Durability and Maintenance

Choose hand rope chain saws constructed with high-quality materials such as stainless steel or hardened carbon steel for durability and resistance to corrosion. Models featuring self-cleaning teeth or detachable blades facilitate easy maintenance and cleaning after use. Additionally, consider models with protective blade covers or sheaths to prevent damage during storage and transport.
