This is a great kit that includes pretty much every little thing you'll need save for maybe a lightweight throw line for the bags. They give you two bags, two different kinds of handles, nice long ropes for the saw itself that are two colors for easy identification when they're up in the air.. there's gloves in there, a sharpener, and even a nice little laminated pocket card flip book of how to tie different arborist's knots. All in a nice carrying case. This product basically saved me a huge bill... I had a large, dangerous, dying oak located close to my barn and leaning heavily toward the garage. I would have had to pay a good bit to have it taken down professionally without risk to my buildings. With this I was able to shorten it a large branch at a time and then take the trunk down safely in the space between the tree and the buildings. It took a good solid day of work, but I was able to drop the whole tree safely even though I didn't have the experience to effectively fell it in one piece.

It just works like it should! I purchased this several years ago to remove a large (8 in Ash) tree top that snapped off in a storm and hung up in the crotch of another tree. I was on the edge of our property, so I wasn't in a hurry to get it down. I finally got around to using it today and even though it is a lot of work by yourself, and I took several breaks, it did the job just fine. The branch was still solid today as the day it broke off in the storm, and being an ash tree, it was harder to cut than a pine branch. Now I have another tool in my arsenal, if needed again.I did use an arborist throw and string to get it over the branch because it was 30 feet up in the air.So overall I am very satisfied with the saw, which saved me a lot of $$$.

I gave this 5 stars just so my review would not get lost in the long thread of comments.I read reviews for this and other hand-operated chain cutters. I chose this product because I hoped that the premium price would avoid the commonly reported problems of permanently snagged chains, broken links, and ineffective cutting. I'm still not sure that logic is accurate. The chain is high quality and cuts well. HOWEVER, I strongly recommend you learn to use this (or any similar) tool by cutting several substantial branches at waist-level so you can wrestle the stuck chain out on your first several tries. I needed time to learn what causes and prevents snagging because once the cutting chain locks up in the groove, even the hardest pulling will not budge it.I didn't even try using the thin ropes that came with it. I attached long slender chains that could support my weight if need be. The hand straps are so tiny, I could not get my hands into them. I didn't even try to use the spring clips because they looked to be of questionable quality.I practiced for a LONG time on low limbs. Just when I thought I had the technique perfected, the chain would cinch and NO amount of pulling would release it. It's no wonder people here said they wish they had bought TWO less-expensive chains instead of one expensive one.If you're thinking you can casually buy ANY cutting chain like this, toss it over a limb, and get the job done on the first try, I'd suggest you think twice. However, having said that, I am satisfied with the quality of the cutting chain itself. Since I did not buy a cheaper one, I don't know how its quality actually compares.

We used this rope saw to cut the ‘tops’ off of dying spruce & poplar. (It is good practice to remove dead tree tops.) Neighbours stopped by and ‘volunteered’ to help!? 😜😃🤪Ha ha! - If you try one of these: its a handy idea to use a (sling shot) device to launch your ‘line’ over / around the tree. I ‘also’ found that attaching small markers (ribbons) on each end of the cutting chain, makes it easier to know when to stop and pull the other way.

This rope saw worked better than I expected, judging from the other reviews. I'm sure that it helped having a second person to hold the other rope, so that we could saw the branch from a shallower angle, preventing it from getting stuck. We also happened to use the saw on a day where the humidity was very high, so the wood was softer and cut quite easily.I've never used a rope saw before, but had to purchase this one in order to cut some branches that would have been too dangerous with a ladder and conventional chainsaw. From what I've found online, rope saws are also generally cheaper than a pole extension for a chainsaw. Anyway, my brother and I used this to cut two branches that had split off the trunk of an old mulberry tree after it was struck by lightning. These branches were about 20 ft. above the ground, with the first branch being about 5 in. thick, as seen in the photo, and the second branch being about 6 in. thick. Standing far apart, and keeping the rope in tension, we sawed through the 5 in. branch very quickly, in about 5 minutes. The 6 in. branch was more difficult, taking 12 minutes because the chain kept getting stuck. Whenever this happened, it helped to whip the rope upward on either end to get it unstuck, but I imagine this would be much more difficult if the branch were higher.I think this is a good product, but it is tricky to work with, and if the branch is more than 1 in. thick, I wouldn't try cutting it on my own, because it will get stuck much more frequently. Also, if the branches you need to cut are more than 25-30 ft. high, you'll probably need longer ropes than the ones this saw comes with.

The large tree branch was caught over 20 feet high in the tree. To my amazement, this tool actually worked, although only after a great deal of exertion and frustration. The saw component frequently got snagged on small branches or the cut itself; it was considerable work to make the cuts and land the saw in the right place; the carabiner-like clip for the bag was flimsy and often got caught on branches and needed to be replaced. Also note that falling large branches are *dangerous*. But in the end, the branch came down and overall this device saved us the considerable expense of a tree service.

Gear Up for Adventure: Unleash the Power of the Hand Rope Chain Saw

Hand rope chain saws offer a versatile and portable solution for outdoor enthusiasts, campers, and survivalists. With their compact design and efficient cutting capabilities, these tools enable users to effortlessly tackle woodcutting tasks while camping, hiking, or during emergencies. Whether it's clearing trails, gathering firewood, or building shelters, a hand rope chain saw is a must-have tool for anyone venturing into the great outdoors.

Blade Length and Material

Longer blades, typically ranging from 24 to 36 inches, offer extended reach and are suitable for cutting larger branches and trees. For heavy-duty use in rugged environments, high-carbon or titanium-coated steel blades ensure durability and resilience against wear and tear.

Handle Design and Grip

Ergonomically designed handles with contoured shapes and cushioned grips provide comfort and reduce hand fatigue during prolonged use. Nonslip rubber or textured surfaces enhance grip and control, especially when working in wet or slippery conditions.

Portability and Weight

Lightweight and compact hand rope chain saws weighing between 1 to 2 pounds are ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, or backpacking. Models with foldable handles or collapsible designs further enhance portability, allowing for easy storage in backpacks or emergency kits.

Versatility and Cutting Capacity

Look for hand rope chain saws with adjustable tension systems that allow for fine-tuning the cutting action according to the task at hand. Multi-directional cutting teeth or bi-directional blades offer versatility for cutting through different types of wood, including both hardwood and softwood.

Durability and Maintenance

Choose hand rope chain saws constructed with high-quality materials such as stainless steel or hardened carbon steel for durability and resistance to corrosion. Models featuring self-cleaning teeth or detachable blades facilitate easy maintenance and cleaning after use. Additionally, consider models with protective blade covers or sheaths to prevent damage during storage and transport.
