I am very happy with this trimmer! I cannot lug around a gas trimmer, nor do I want to worry about whether I can start one up. This trimmer really works! I love that you can change the shaft angle and also extend or shorten the length to accommodate people of different heights. The manual doesn't mention changing the angle though, and actually, the manual could be better especially with larger images so I can see them more clearly. It is a very lightweight trimmer. However, I am a 61 year old woman who is 5'3" tall and the trimmer end of the weedeater starts to become heavy after I've been using it for 15 minutes or so but I currently have some arm weakness issues. I will shorten the shaft again for the next use to see if that helps. This trimmer puts my Black and Decker rechargeable trimmer to shame. It's lighter, the battery lasts longer and it actually trims grass. And finally I have an easy way to trim around my rose bushes.Changing the string is easy but it's hard for me to push in on the tabs to release the head because I have weak fingers. So not sure if I can find some way to make that easier for me in the future.I bought this battery unit to go with it: Makita BL1840BDC1 LXT Lithium-Ion Battery and Charger Starter Pack, 18V, andI can't believe how fast it recharges the battery.
Read MoreI'm still running on the original string that came with the trimmer and it breaks easily. I'm not a landscaper and maybe that's me running it into concrete/bricks. I'm confident projectfarm will tell me which wire will work best for a replacement. I mention that because I love this thing other than that, and that's a disposable part. The trimmer works great, battery life is fine. I use it to whack plants/weeds also.
Read MoreMakita is a quality brand, so far as anything is quality anymore, now that the standard of every industry is "built-to-fail" so all us idiots will have to buy another sooner. The bump-feed mechanism that feeds out the line and automatically trims its length is SO wonderful compared to the manual-feed you may have used a long time ago.I'd like to see the motor be near the handle instead of the feed, the way the Makita gas-powered trimmer is designed, so you're not working against gravity, using the middle handle like a mis-positioned fulcrum. (A fulcrum only really does its job when it's closer to the load than it is close to yourself, but since we can't lengthen human arms, we'll have to put the motor near the handle if we want to optimize this mechanically.)After multiple intense uses, I found the metal shaft rotated the business end. No problem, just put it back by twisting the black locking mechanism above the metal shaft, turn the shaft, and twist the locking mechanism back again. You may have seen this feature on high-end ice scrapers or tripod legs. It's the same mechanism that allows the shaft to be adjusted to the length you want.Since many readers will be eager to know how this electric trimmer compares to gas trimmers is terms of power and run-time, I'll say I'm sorry you haven't heard, but those feature of gas trimmers have been rendered moot points by oil company CEOs who've admitted man-made global warming is caused by fossil fuels and is really happening. (Look it up. I'm sorry if you didn't get the memo on that or if it bothers you to read it, but since it's a fact of life now, I'll continue this review in the light of reality, instead of discussing moot points.)I found this trimmer powerful enough for a seriously overgrown lawn after having hurt my back. I even used it more like a lawnmower in some places. Of course once the weeds turn slightly "wooden" string trimmers won't do no matter how powerful because the line itself breaks, so you'll have to use a lawnmower or a serrated knife or something at that point. This line trimmer seems solid/sturdy but it's also light enough that my back didn't have much trouble while using it.Notes about battery options:This trimmer can use either the smaller or larger Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Makita LXT battery. I found the smaller Makita battery too short and the larger Makita battery enough to finish some overgrowth at the edges of a medium-large suburban lawn with front and back yard, but if you're trying to do a quicker job the smaller battery may do alright for you. There's also a non-OEM battery for this which I haven't tried but just letting you know it exists, if you want an even longer run-time. That's 4500mAh by Powerextra™ on Amazon as of this review, and it has pretty good reviews itself.
Read MoreI am a dedicated Makita tool owner so this purchase was easy for me-I already have the charger and three of the 3.0amp batteries. I have read a batch of critical reviews and simply do not see why anyone can reasonable complain about this tool. It is WELL made, like most Makita products. It DOES what it is supposed to do, dependably, like most Makita products. It is simple to assemble and I had it working within 15 minutes of opening the box. It is NOT designed for thick stemmed or heavy brush...it is meant to trim your lawn...do not expect to open a logging camp! First use was about 30-minutes and then I put it on the charger. It took about 15 minutes to come back to full charge. Ran it again the next day for longer period; until I noticed it loosing efficiency and then back to the charger again. I have not yet run it down (not recommended) but 30-45 minutes of grass trimming is enough for me anyway. Then it's time for an ice cold lemonade.Follow up[ on 6/20/2015This has proven to be an outstanding little appliance and we have worked it hard. It easily handles reasonable weeds and grass and runs for longer than I expected. If you are a senior or have arm and shoulder problems you will find this tool a real blessing. Both my wife and I love it!!
Read MoreI used it with a 5 amp battery to trim along the property fence line, was impressed by its power and ease of handling.
Read MoreUsed it for the first time today I live in SW Florida standard 120x80 lot average size property for here’s. As far as I’m concerned it worked great. Have seen a lot of complaints from some people about the bump head not working correctly almost every gas powered trimmer I owned sooner or later the bump head doesn’t release the line and I’ve had some of the expensive ones . So I just stopped using it and release it by hand it takes 20 seconds and but like I said I have a small yard so it might be an inconvenience for some . They are all made from plastic no matter how expensive the machine is . I’ll give it 5 stars if it last . And one more thing you can find aftermarket 18 volt lithium ion batteries with Panasonic cells 2 pack 5ah for around $50 free shipping .

This is an excellent tool, I bought T-50 3/8 in. staples like the other review said, worked flawlessly to re-screen my porch. It’s a powerful, well-built tool, not heavy or cumbersome to hold. Would recommend.
Read MoreVery good functional product and practical case
Read MoreAfter years of hand stapling various projects I found that I couldn't really grip many of the staplers I own well enough to ensure my safety. I had never been able to use a hammer type stapler with any accurate results. I bought the nice little Arrow brand stapler, it works fine on lightweight shade cloth over my fish tank and other light items, I have only used it for the 3/8 staple length. I needed to fix some weathered cedar lattice paneling that was pulling loose as it aged. I own several cordless Makita tools and find them of superior performance and quality and ordered this tool as soon as I realized staplers were now cordless. I got the 9/16 arrow T50 staples, and after reading all about the stapler, I pulled the charged battery from my Makita blower, went out to the panel, pushed the front retractable lip down on a single layer cedar board and pulled the trigger. Like a dream come true the staple drove in the proper depth and so did the next and the next. The tool with the battery installed is easy to manage, well balanced so it doesn't feel heavy or uncontrollable, and a sturdy feel when it is doing its job.
Read MoreAbsolutely love it. I'm amazed at how stupid some people can be. Sure, there are some legitimate complaints. Like the 7/8 inch legs do not fit this staple gun. They do not. Those are T-75 staples. This gun will only accept the T-50 type staples (if you are following Arrow protocol). But the complaints about this gun being too slow, or too heavy, or putting the staples in randomly (like you never know what this gun is going to do...lol), are absolutely ridiculous. This gun is so powerful and accurate, I cannot say enough good things about it. If you tilt the gun to one side or the other, the staple will go in on that angle. As it will with any staple gun. I would not classify this gun as a "wide crown stapler". It's essentially a powered standard staple gun. Just like the Arrow T-50 staple guns, except with way more power, and the ability to rapid fire (hold down the trigger, then every time you touch the head to the surface, it fires). Granted, pneumatic staplers are way faster. But speed is not why you buy this gun. Even though it is quite fast in rapid fire mode. Thank you Makita. Also the seller was great. No trouble and fast shipping.
Read More4/5 stars because it really is a great tool but it is an overgeneralized name that can lead people to believe it will shoot various types of crown staples and because its pricey. This is perfect for shooting type T50 crown staples only! It may not shoot other types of crown staples as the slot for staples is designed for T50 type! So far I have put 9/16" and shorter T50 staples through it and it shoots and sets them perfectly. The bump fire is fast and works well. Reloading is easy. The hook is great and clips nicely on a tool pouch, pocket or belt. I would recommend this for: stapling paperbacked fiberglass insulation in stick frame construction, installing visqueen/plastic/vapor bariers, putting up flyers/ads on telephone poles, excels in upholstery, carpet installation (some applications), installing vinyl soffit venting, securing thin metal cornerbeed for outside corner drywall installation. From a functional standpoint it will remove the need to have air hoses air compressors and electrical cords setup to run it meaning you can move freely without job site range limitations. This was the bigest selling point for me as I hate getting cords out, having to constatly re-adjust them, avoid tripping on them and then having to wrap them up or move them because they don't reach where I need to be. Battery life is good and so far I have not run down my 3.0 18v battery even after depleting several fully loaded magazines of staples through it. It is a little noisy but not louder than a hammer striking a nail. It has some weight to it but if you are a working type you will not notice fatigue more than a small hammer drill-driver comparatively. Two reasons why it doesn't get 5 stars.Reason 1 the name implies it can shoot many types of crown staples which I can assure you is not true I didn't try it with all the different types and widths of crown staples but I can assure you it works best for T50 and may not work well with others. The name should state something along the lines of "Makita XTS01Z 18V LXT T50 Crown Stapler". Yes T50 staples are technically crown staples but in the trades crown staples are often thought of as much larger and robust. This is a forearm saving light stapler with limited applications. (minus 0.5 star for the naming).Reason 2 the price. I understand it says Makita and the engineering and marketing that went into it was considerable and it saves time which can equate to saving money but all said and done if you aren't using it for the limited range of applications often (often is a relative term to the user) it really is a somewhat overpriced novelty. It should really be closer to $100 on price (just my opinion but still minus another 0.5 stars).WIth all that said I am not returning it and mine is not for hire nor will I loan it out.
Read MoreI do like it. However, it's a little heavy for long use, especially when using vertical or overhead.
Read MoreUses standard easy to purchase staples, lot of grunt to drive long staples.
Read MoreThe stapler has plenty of power to drive 1/2" staples. I used it to staple plastic caps to studs while installing a plastic vapor barrier

The weight and lack of noise are nice. The fact that it doesn't emit noxious fumes is a huge plus. It starts easily, runs smoothly, and holds a charge moderately well. This small chainsaw is perfect for a property owner with wooded areas to maintain. In my opinion this Makita saw is priced well and is easy to use for clearing unwanted trees. Five stars.
Read MoreThis was so much fun to take out recently. We had a very destructive ice storm over the winter that wrecked our entire town. 6 months later, people are still cleaning up their properties. We put this to use in my mother-in-law's backyard and it cut downed trees and limbs like butter. The blade is perfect, and the batteries lasted a good long time. The safety features are great, one to lock it out, and an extra button to start it up. It's lightweight so it feels safe to handle. The 16" blade was a great size for everything we needed to handle and we got the job done.
Read MoreI bought the 16” kit with battery charger and the Makita lubricant oil. The lubricant oil is the only thing missing from the kit, which should be included, in my opinion. Purchasers of this kit or standalone chainsaw should make sure that they purchase the lubricant oil. Be aware that the lubricant oil is rather viscous, so leverage smaller funnels, rags, and towels so that loading the oil into the side of the chainsaw is less messy. This said, this was my first experience with a chainsaw and it was quite positive. Assembly and first charges of the batteries are fairly quick and intuitive for this unit. Getting used to the safety switch hand guard, as well as the back of the handle in use safety switch takes no time to master. The instruction manual is well written, though reading glasses may be required. My first job removing a Laurel bush/hedge with this could not have been easier or faster. Prior to using this device, a smaller hedge trimmer was leveraged to reduce the numbers of thinner branches (took about 35 minutes). 15 minutes after the lubricant oil was poured in and clean up, the first Laurel bush and a few of the larger branches of other bushes were removed. Took about 50 minutes for the cleanup.Using this chainsaw right-handed is a breeze, it is quite agile in tight spaces and the trigger throttle is quite responsive. The main thing is to press the joint of the body and chainsaw blade on the branch trunk that is to be cut, rather than halfway on the bottom of the chainsaw blade. The trunk of the Laurel bush was about 6” and took no time at all to be cut the larger branches to cut the trunk down to the ground. I split the last 6” of the trunk above the ground. The lubricant oil does not leak on my chainsaw at all. After the short amount of work very little lubricant oil and battery charge were used for this light bit of work. Cleanup of the Laurel bush and the chainsaw took much longer than the work itself. Makita made a wonderful device and I can’t recommend it enough. One thing I missed, it was quiet when going through the Laurel, much less noise than the hedge trimmer, by the by.
Read MoreThe operators manual is very vague in details. Battery charging is not very clear and no mention of charging time was seen. Took bout an hour to reach full charge which is good. I had a Japanese maple with a 2 1/2 inch dead limb and the saw went though it like it was butter. The chain width is about half as wide as a gas saw and cut very fast. I have not tested the battery life but should be perfect for back yard pruning. If extended use is contemplated I would recommend getting two more batteries.
Read MoreA few years back, I bought a little Earthwise saw, and I have NOT been impressed with it. It barely could do more than pruning. So I was a tad skeptical about getting another battery powered saw. But I figured maybe tech had advanced.. so I watched several YouTube videos, and one in particular did a head to head with this saw against a similarly sized gas saw, and this Makita came out on top.The next thing I was not sure about is if my current 18V Makita batteries would work. The one that comes with features 5Ah batteries, and mine are 3Ah. But given the significant cost difference, I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm happy to report the 18V 3Ah work fine (BL 1830B) with this saw. I figured they should--just won't last as long. I've been going electric for some time, and I've found I dislike having lots of different chargers and batteries, so I'm glad Makita offers this with their normal 18V.I took 'er out for a spin yesterday, and made quick work of about an 8" tree (at least the bottom half of it). It prunes off the branches like they're not there, and it slices through the trunk in no time. I'm very impressed! And when I took it back, it still showed full charge on the meter. I imagine it'd last a good bit, at least enough for the periodical jobs I have.I'd also mention that I recently had a professional tree guy do some vista clearing, and he was using a battery powered saw, so I guess even the pros are switching. No doubt there are limits, but hey, hard to beat less maintenance, not messing with fuel and mixing oil, less noise, and so forth. Speaking of noise, it's not bad at all. I don't feel I need ear protection, though maybe if I did it all day I'd feel differently.Note that the tool (as you might expect) comes bone dry in terms of blade oil, so be sure you have that on hand. The opening is big enough you can fill without a funnel, which is nice given how viscous that stuff is.It's very easy to install the chain/bar. No tools required.Lastly, about weight, it's not what Iid call light, especially with the batteries on board, but it's not uncomfortably heavy to me, either. Having some "meat" behind that power is a good thing, anyways, to help keep things stable.I've only had it a short time, but I'm very happy and impressed. Definitely recommend, particularly if you already have the 18V Makita batteries.
Read MoreSuper duper. No cranking. I cut trees that is up to 8" diam no problem. Provided that your chain is sharp and you don't lean heavy on your chainsaw. This chainsaw is smart enough to stop if you overload it. Surprisingly good for about 30 cut of about 8" diameter of green wet wood. Fast 45 minutes charge. You can take cut wood out of the way by the time it charges again. Very safe to use too. I am impress. No more carb worries. Would cut construction beam, joist and plywood no problem if an electrical source is available to charge batteries.
Read MoreThe narrow chain seems to cut well. The saw has good balance and isn't too heavy. It's good value for $400 with two 5AH batteries and the very large dual charger. Charge the batteries simultaneously for best battery performance. According to Oregon, the replacement chain is an R56 costing $21 from Amazon.ca.
Read MoreWorks better than I thought. And it fits in the back of my side by side for trail work.
