This incredible one is the perfect combination of fun and science! It allows kids to watch crystals grow in minutes from the four included evergreen, cherry, bonsai, and dragon blood trees. With the five pens inside, kids can fill each tree with whatever colors they choose! Once the crystals are grown, children can then examine the genuine geode specimen included in the kit. The full-color learning guide provides fascinating facts about crystals, making this an educational experience they won't soon forget. With the ability to grow crystals in any color imaginable and learn about their properties, this STEM craft kit is perfect for both girls and boys alike.
If you’re careful, you can make the trees to last up to a few months. If you have rambunctious kids, then it may be wise to keep the finished project out of their reach so they can look at it without hurting it.
While this project can work well for kids of a wide range of ages, it’s a good idea to get this for children who can handle it on their own with very little supervision. It’s recommended for kids between the ages of six and ten, but older and younger kids may still enoy it.

This one is an exciting, educational activity kit that provides hours of fun for both boys and girls. It comes with 8 vibrant colored crystals, including glow in the dark, that grow quickly! The kit also includes 2 silicone growing chambers and a light-up display stand to proudly showcase 5 of your newly grown crystals. But this isn't all. It also comes with 5 real specimens, including quartz, rose quartz, fluorite, calcite, and amethyst. With a full-color, informative guidebook included you can really expand your knowledge on these vibrant gems. As part of the National Geographic STEM series, this educational toy is designed to spark a lifelong love for discovering the world around us.
This option is designed to be used by kids that are eight years old and older, so a twelve year old should be able to enjoy using it. This comes down to the kind of child the twelve year old is, of course, so be sure to consider your kid’s interests first.
The instructions do not specify whether the specimens should be in a light or dark area. However, the crystal's color will not be as bright if placed in an area with only a little light.
