Hand cranking 9 gallons of spray was killing my shoulder. Enter the HD4000. I'll get into details below but i am very happy with this purchase. Quick likes: very comfortable wand that does not drip, good selection of nozzles, easy to fill, adjustable pressure that is easy to reach while on your back, comes with extra seals. Some dislikes: plastic fittings with fine threads (especially for the nozzles) could be susceptible to damage. The pump to hose connection works loose - then you get wet and cold. The harness is ok but if I was doing 24 gallons in a day, is want a better harness. Some details....The trigger - no drips. You let go, it stops. If I'm walking around with roundup i can't have drips. Extremely comfortable. Small complaint - I locked by mistake and had a hard time unlocking quickly because i wasn't used to it yet.The harness - it gets the job done. To keep pricing competitive I'd be ok with a pro harness upgrade for those that want it. 4 gallons of sloshing water is heavy - having a harness with some shock absorption and wider straps with much better padding would be something i would pay extra for as an option. If you only use it a couple times a month for one or two tanks, the price is right.Pressure adjustment - very useful and easy to reach while wearing the pack. It will shoot very far using the brass nozzle at the highest pressure. A far exceeds expectations on convenience and function.I feel like I'm going to lose the charger - I'd like a durable pouch the can get attached to the sprayer when you are not using it. One open air side for anything wet and a sealed section for the charger. I can put it in a ziploc bag and leave inside sprayer when not in use but don't like putting stuff inside the tank. Not a deal breaker though. The battery - i wanted a lithium ion but form factors are all unique to vendor. I use Dewalt and got to thinking that a charger/battery system is to expensive and the industry standard sealed lead acid battery can be purchased anywhere for cheap. The heaviest portion of the sprayer is the product and the slight extra weight of the battery is insignificant compared to the product. Long term cost wins and these batteries are proven performers.Cleaning - i try to not make to much of what i am using so that i run out. Very easy to dump out excess from either side and rinse, add a little water and run through to clean the wand. I leave both caps off to dry it out. Easy.Durability - don't know yet and i am not a daily user. I expect to have to replace the battery about every 3 years - same battery my alarm system uses - cheap, standard, no big deal and it could last longer. More likely to die from lack of regular use than from wearing out. Seals seem like good quality and you get a bag full of extras.Bottom line - i would buy again and stand by comments that I'd pay extra for a pro harness. You want to have a good price point to have a larger market, so the upgraded harness as an extra makes sense.

My Petra HD4000 sprayer was very simple to set up by twisting a few pieces together. The spray time provided by the battery far exceeds my needs for around my property. It is comfortable for me to wear using the backpack straps. I like the very wide opening, which makes it easy to pour in solutions. The unit itself is not heavy. I don't usually fill it up if I don't want to lug around the weight. I am very happy with my purchase and feel that it is the best available. When setting it up, I did need to ask a question, so I can report that it was very easy to get customer support by phone. Further, it was obvious that they know what they're talking about, and that they care about their customers.Updated March 02, 2023: I ended up leaving some kind of solution in my tank over winter. I use it mostly for weed killer, but it could have been just soap water. Or, I don't know what I may have had in there. When I went to use it today, it would spray out for only like three seconds and then slowed to a very lite weak dripping stream and then would stop altogether. The motor seemed strong. The battery was good, as it had been on the charger for a couple of days. I wondered if something may be clogging it up, like debris or maybe some sort of mineral crystallization which may have formed over the winter. I know you're supposed to clean it out after each use and clean it up before storing it, but it got pushed to the side and forgotten while tending to other matters I suppose. I'm not a perfect human.Anyway, it was very simple and amazingly quick to reach a rep at the company. I used their website chat feature, which is my favorite form of customer support. They do it really well. The rep suggested doing a priming with some warm soapy water, so I emptied the winter contents out of the tank and was surprised to see something covering the hole at the bottom of the tank (see picture). There was some kind of whiteish, fleshy, fimly goop congregated around the hole at the center, bottom of the tank which runs out to the sprayer head. I put on a glove and reached in to clear it. I pulled out a snotty bunch of goo. It had filled in the small round perforated cover/filter over the hole, which just snaps off like a plastic lid. There was additional goop beyond the filter pooled up inside that hole. I used a screwdriver and cleared it all out that I could tell. I then rinsed the filter/cap and ran a batch of warm soapy water through the unit. It immediately started running properly again, as if nothing had ever happened. So, luckily that was simple and a testament to a good product. I'm really happy with the sprayer and think with proper and regular cleaning this time, it will last a good long time.

I have only used the sprayer a couple of times but I'm quite impressed by how solid it is, it's durable and will hopefully stand up to the rigours or regular use! It is a little uncomfortable though as it's quite square, so when you fill the tank it can dig in to your lower back, I'm not worried about this though as I have some rugged foam padding to stick along the bottom which should sort it!There's a good range of accessories and nozzles so I should have the kit for every different job I encounter.Still early days but I'm really impressed by the price and build, would highly recommend to anyone thinking of purchasing! 😁👍

I finally got around to using the backpack sprayer. The machine charged up well. The dial allows you to select the strength. This is being used to spray dormant oil on apple trees. The nozzle is adjustable. This is way better than the pump sprayers I had been using over the years and the sprayer completely covered the trees. It does use up the liquid but it aerosolizes the solution well. Make sure you wear an N95 mask and stay down wind of this machine. The pack does have some weight to it before you add the spray solution.Over all this is a good back sprayer that can be used for many different uses.

I really hoped this would be as good as most of the reviews, however it is not, in my opinion. As a lot have mentioned, the straps are horrible. I lost one of the clips simply walking from the garage to the back yard carrying the sprayer before filling it with anything. Searched and found it, but they just slip off with no resistance.Update: Added 1 star (3 to 4), the installation had an error on my part, so one issue I had is resolved after contacting customer support. They responded very quickly, and on a Sunday! The straps still need work, so I will manually fix those with something. This sprayer did a great job applying an even amount of a pesticide and some chelated iron. Yard is looking really good!

Review of PetraTools 4 Gallon Battery Powered Backpack Sprayer – Extended Spray Time Long-Life Battery - New HD Wand Included, Wide Mouth Lid, Multiple Nozzles & Battery Included @ $219.99.I have just a big enough city/house lot to maintain that the regular 2- and 3-gallon pump sprayers just wear a person's hands out from all of the pumping. I've had a pump handle backpack sprayer and 2 pull behind battery driven sprayers; they all failed after a short while. After lots of reading of reviews on here and the Internet, I chose this sprayer. I did not take photos since the ad photos and videos do it justice. It was fairly easy to assemble the hoses and fittings with everything else pretty much assembled already. Teflon tape (plumbers' tape) is provided, and you get a complete roll. I found that I missed getting one of the fittings wrapped with the tape as it was leaking around the spray head. Yes, I had to even remove the spray heads and use the tape there too. Included in the prep time was putting about 2 gallons of warm water in the tank (after charging the battery for several hours), and then letting the pump run for a bit to prime the pump so that sprayer works at optimal output. It did not take but perhaps 10-15 minutes.Once the prep was completed, I chose my nozzles and affixed them, then filled the tank with water and added herbicide. Keep in mind that water weighs 8.3 pounds per gallon, and this is a 4 gallon sprayer tank, which adds another 33.2 pounds on top of what the tank and lead-acid battery weigh. Lead-acid batteries weigh more than the lithium-ion batteries (15.47 pounds for the sprayer, according to the product details). So, you are looking at loading about 50 pounds onto your back. I had to set mine up on the top of the porch and get down onto the lower steps and get into the shoulder harness, and then stand up. I did not notice any leaking that I am certain of. The second fill of this to finish my grounds produced some liquids down my back when I put it on my shoulders via the harness. I don't think that the lid was loose at all, and I did not notice any water that I missed getting into the tank, so maybe there was some leakage around a lid. But it did not do this the first time filled.I liked that there was sufficient space to fill the tank. There is another opening too. It is for filling the herbicide, or whatever you are putting in there. There is a measuring cup inside of the smaller opening. The water fill has a removable filter. This sprayer really does a great job of spraying. I only used 2 of the nozzle sets, but they were awesome. The voltmeter is a little confusing to me still. Both of the lights stayed on once the battery was charged and the sprayer turned on. Plus, there're 2 on-off buttons. One they don't call that, but instead it acts as a control of the power to regulate how much the pump maintains the pressure. The other is a toggle up and down to power it off and on. But mine stayed on if I did not turn the knob to the off position too.I did not like the weight of a filled sprayer, but that's part of it I suppose. I feel like this is on the expensive side, but if it holds up, it will be worth it in the long run. The fill lines are marked per the gallon. They are very hard to see. I might take a permanent marker and mark them but wanted to wait until I made sure the thing was going to work. They say that you can keep this thing on charge all of the time or be sure to charge it up regularly or it will go dead like the battery in your car if it sits. This is a slight drawback to me because my electric bill is high enough without adding yet another device to draw power. It's either that or set reminders to charge the thing periodically. It doesn't take up as much space to store as the pull behind sprayers.Overall, I would give it 4.5 stars. I hope that this helps someone to decide whether to try the product or not.

Heres an update on my initial review below.Im changing my review to 5 stars because you can’t put a price on customer service. I got a callback today from customer service and they help me solve my problem with the drip they have been very helpful and very approachable. I think with that said this product is worthy of five stars I have used several loads through the sprayer and it has worked great. Save yourself a few bucks and give them a chance it’s a good power sprayer!Initial reviewI’m giving this three stars for now until I get things figured out. When I received this item it was easy to put together it wasn’t quite as sturdy as I had hoped and I realized after putting water in it to test it but it only sprayed a very strong stream it was hard to dial the pressure back to the spot spraying around other plants without the fear of heavy mist overspray. I contacted the company and they recommended I try buying one of the other three nozzles on their website so I did purchase them they were only a few bucks each and it ended up the flex nozzle with the breast hip you are able to adjust the spray on it someone and then also you can use the silver knob to turn the unit on to do the lowest pressure possible and that seem to do the trick I have actually sprayed about five loads of weed killer through it and it has operated really nice except I have a small leak whenever I’m running the pump it wants to drip out of the bottom and down the back of my leg I contacted the company and they recommended I try buying one of their other three nozzles on their website so I did purchase them they were only a few bucks each and it ended up the flex nozzle with the brass tip you were able to adjust the spray on it somewhere and then also you can use the silver knob to turn the unit on to do the lowest pressure possible and that seem to do the trick I have actually sprayed about five loads of weed killer through it and it has operated really nice except I have a small leak whenever I’m running the pump it wants to drip out of the bottom and down the back of my leg And I’m using ground up so I can’t have that. I called the company and reported it and I’m waiting on them to call me back for a remedy I assume they’ll either send me a replacement I believe they’ll make it right so far so good with customer service. I will try to update this review once I get my problems remedied. I’m still on the fence as to whether I would buy this again $200 was not that bad you get what you pay for I think as long as you’re careful with this unit and don’t bang it around it’ll be OK. I’m not using mine for commercial work I’m using it for residential I have to maintain about 4 acres of land and I needed to get away from the hand pump type backpack sprayer.

I had been looking at this for a while and finally pulled the trigger at the start of summer. The weeds around the shed and fence perimter had gotten out of control and I was not looking forward to spraying by hand. With this sprayer I was able to put down 8 gallons of Roundup in under an hour! The unit itself charged very quickly, was a breeze to assemble, and is actually pretty comfortable even when it's full. Plus it's made in the USA! It also comes with several different spray tips for various application needs, and the pressure is adjustable so you can control your flow rate. Nin at PetraTools customer service has been very helpful, and I look forward to adding more PetraTools products to my aresenal. Wish I'd bought this sooner, but better late than never!

BIG improvement over the "pump" type sprayer I'd been using... more capacity and NO PUMPING! It has more than enough pressure, and the variety of spray nozzles makes it very versatile. The 3 gallon size is a good compromise of weight vs. capacity, and the variable pressure knob is a nice feature - I found that with the triple spray nozzle, the minimum pressure setting was plenty to get the job done, and it conserved the herbicide mix I was spraying... maximum pressure was overkill, and totally unnecessary. I used the supplied teflon tape for all fittings and had ZERO leaks. No mess at all. The padded straps make this about as comfortable as a backpack holding 3 gallons of liquid can be - that's about 25 lbs, not counting the pack itself... so I'd guess about 30-35 lbs. total. This is not an inexpensive unit, but well worth it if you have a lot of spraying to do (I have a large patch of woods bordering my backyard, and the edge is overrun with poison ivy - about 200-250 foot frontage, and about 10' deep into the woods). This sprayer allows me to spray well into the poison ivy without getting too close, and holds enough herbicide that I don't have to stop every 10 minutes to refill it. My only gripe is that the battery is not easily accessible, in the event that it ever needs to be changed out. Also, once assembled with the wand-holder brackets and hoses attached, it won't go back into its box for storage. When on the storage brackets, the wand is not that easy to reach if you're not flexible... remove the wand from the holder BEFORE putting the full pack on.

When initially I received this sprayer, I was excited about not having to pump anymore. It worked great and I had high expectations of it. Unfortunately, it only lasted a year and maybe I used it a total of 8 times. When I went to turn it on today and it would not work. So I took it off and checked to make sure It was charged. Then I noticed smoke coming out of the battery door and when I touched it, it was hot. So I disconnected the battery and place the sprayer in the dirt in case it caught fire. Eventually, it stopped smoldering. I called tech-support but received a voicemail so I left my name and number, but I never received a call back. I guess I’ll go back to a Solo manual sprayer. Those usually usually last me 5 years or more. Additional feedback: Customer Service ended up calling me back and offered to replace the sprayer at no cost to me even though it was out of warranty. I'm hoping that the new sprayer lasts me much longer. Thank you!

Works great! Good battery life.....really great product. I've used it several times now and I can't find anything I dislike about it...I bought the three gallon because, it has the bigger battery, and 3 gallons wouldweigh about 25 pounds and I don't see myself at 70 years old wanting to truck around more weight than that. First time I filled it, I said .what??? No gallon markers on the tank?? But they are there, just hard to see in the white plastic. I highlighted them with a black marker, and its easy to spot the amount of water when filling the tank. My review? Buy it!!

I bought this sprayer (HD3000) when I was renovating my front lawn.I got it in august of 2023. Immediately out of the box I attempted to perform the priming action but it failed. I called the company (Petra) and had a very nice representative walk me through an alternate priming method in which water is injected with a hose directly into the inlet inside the tank to prime. This worked very well.I was mostly happy with the unit over the fall. Between killing the old lawn, treating the dirt and spraying various other treatments in the back yard, I used the unit perhaps 10 times. One persistent problem I had with it was that the place where the hose attached to the wand would leak. This happened the first time I used it, I tightened the connection and it would be fine for a bit and then start again. Annoying but not a deal breaker. The final use I made of it in the fall, I was getting leaking from the base, down my rear end. I hadn't noticed this occurring before, however it turns out that was some level of leak for some time because the leaking fluid showed traces of the dye that I stopped using around the 4 usage of the sprayer. This was a little more alarming but I figured I would deal with it in the spring.I dried it out, per the instructions, and set the unit aside in my basement (climate controlled) so that I wouldn't be exposing it to the temperature fluctuations in the garage.I got it out to use last weekend (late Feb 2024). I charged it up overnight, got it out in the morning and primed it with warm slightly soapy water. Rolled the power switch and all I got a high pitched whine. I checked, the indicator lights on the front which showed that the battery was charged and turned off the unit. I emptied out the tank and attempted the alternate priming procedure that I was walked through before with the hose spraying directly into the inlet, I can see that water is flowing through the system because it's dripping out the end of the wand (trigger squeezed, power off).I turn on the pump again, high pitched whining noise, the pump motor is dead.I disassemble the unit to pinpoint the whining noise and it is coming directly from the pump motor. There is also rust covering the mounting screws and blue dye all over the inside of the case. This unit only comes with a 3 month warranty.I've got a call into Petra Tools to see if I can buy a replacement pump to put back into the unit and I'll report back on whether I can get it and how much it'll cost.I'd much sooner bypass Petra Tools and buy the pump from somewhere else, but the specs labelled on the pump (12V, 1A, 2.6LPM, 90PSI) don't conform to any pump that I can find elsewhere on the net. The other 12V 2.6LPM pumps are rated above 2A and have lower pressure ratings. I suppose I could give it a shot, and I might, depending on what I hear from the Petra.Edit: The pump from Petra, cost $35, with a $15 shipping and handling charge. $50 for replacement of the major part of the tool that broke with less than one year of usage. The cost of $35 is a little high considering that similar pumps are available on ALI for a small fraction of that. Only covering the unit for 3 months warranty is absurd, the fact that it broke so soon shows that the part is garbage in the first place.

Overall, this is a great sprayer. For my size lot, it lasts as long as I need it to. Good battery life. The wand is a bit cheap. I would have preferred a stainless steel wand. There is no place to attach the want to the tank for storage. Also, it is nice to have the additional nozzles but like the wand, there is no place to store them on the tank. That means they will go to the black hole of my garage never to be seen again! The unit is easy to use and the three gallon capacity is just about the right size. Overall, pleased.

At our company we use our backpack sprayers a lot to apply herbicide and insecticide.Petra sprayers are very sturdy, have lots of pressure and the batteries perform as promised, both on the charge and output. The only downside on Petra’s product is that they are slightly heavier than others but this will only make a difference to you if you work with them all day.We also have found cheaper Chinese products that are just as good however our workers break a lot of wands and keep losing nozzles and we needed a manufacturer that can supply replacements quickly so we have Petra a try. This spring we put Petra’s service to a test because one of our sprayers batteries would not charge after the winter break. Jen was quick to analyze the problem and offered a replacement battery under warranty. She also assisted me with the purchase of replacement parts so I was very happy.

Buying Guide

Choosing the right battery powered sprayer for your needs can be a daunting task. With so many products on the market, it can be hard to know which one will fit your requirements. It is important to consider some features when selecting a sprayer, such as capacity, battery life, sprayer wand, and nozzles. That’s why this guide is here to help you choose the perfect battery powered sprayer for your needs. The size and capacity is important if you are a frequent user or need to cover large areas. Capacity refers to the amount of fluid that the tank can store, usually ranging from 2-4 gallons. If you want to cover larger areas or need more fluid, then you’ll need to select a battery powered sprayer with a higher capacity. Battery life is also an important factor to consider because it will determine how long the sprayer can run without needing to be recharged. Before making a purchase, check the wand specs — it is an important piece of equipment that will determine the range of your spray pattern and the accuracy of your spraying. The sprayer should also have a good selection of nozzles, so you can customize your spray pattern depending on the job.

"Hand cranking 9 gallons of spray was killing my shoulder. You want to have a good price point to have a larger market, so the upgraded harness as an extra makes sense."
